World AIDS Day

Today is World AIDS Day 2010, a day the has, unfortunately, existed for over 20 years. There are millions of men, women, children and babies affected by HIV and AIDs, particularly in many African nations.

I would simply ask that you take a moment to educate yourself about these diseases if you know very little about them. Read There Is No Me Without You by Melissa Faye Green, a true story of an amazing woman who started an orphanage out of her home in Ethiopia after her daughter died of AIDS. The parts about the greed and apathy from the pharmaceutical companies will enrage you.

AIDS and HIV are preventable and treatable. Someone you know may be living with either disease or may have been affected by it. It's time to end the stigma and that will only happen through education.
